Today's weather was a great reminder of why we moved to central California. It was in the 70s and sunny and dry. I wore shorts and a short sleeved shirt for my walk this afternoon and my grocery shopping rounds after that. We've had a few days of very mild warm weather due to off shore winds. Much of the east from Texas to New England are dealing with a huge storm with snow falling in parts of Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana! I just heard that many highways in the south are closed due to icy roads. The airports up and down the east coast are experiencing long delays. Our beautiful weather is forecast to be changing drastically starting this weekend with some snow in the higher elevations (down to 3,000 feet). That is in the hills and mountains around us but not here, hopefully. The temperatures may drop to the 30s at night and only warm to the 50s during the day for the next week with some much needed rain forecasted. Let's hope anyway.
Another phenomenon is the beginning of earlier sunsets at this time of the year. The shortest day of the year is usually the first day of winter. We will lose overall daylight until then however in most areas we are beginning to have more daylight at the end of the day starting right around now! We are still losing daylight at the beginning of the day.
