More news on the central coast fires
There are over 1,000 fires burning in California. They say it's the earliest fire season, perhaps ever. A new fire started in Santa Barbara County in Goleta, the county south of us. This one is also in Los Padres Forest. The big fire up north near King City is also in Los Padres Forest. This one is almost 90% contained. The Big Sur fire is only 3% contained - yikes! So far we've been spared the smoke and ash but I expect that it won't last long. Can you believe there are still stalls all over the place selling permissible fireworks? The governor has been asking people not to sell or buy these fireworks but many of the stalls are operated by not-for-profits as fund raisers and many are not going to stop selling! Many of the coastal towns have firework displays over the ocean. Why don't people just do the right thing!!! Every year not only are there terrible maiming injuries from these fireworks but a number of fires get started accidently. They should make the people who start these fires pay for the cost of putting them out.
