Farmers' Market

T and I went to SLO for their famous Farmers' Market. We haven't been to it during the summer. There is a different crowd - fewer students and more tourists. It was very crowded. The market features barbecued ribs, freshly picked produce, arts and crafts, and live entertainment. It's held every Thursday night, and is a street fair and produce market. No dogs are allowed. The local shops stay open late, and there are usually 3 venues of live entertainment. The market takes up 6 downtown blocks and the area is closed to all through traffic from 5 PM to 9 PM. It is one of the best farmer's markets in California. Last night there was a rock band, a magician and the SLO woodwind orchestra which is heading to S. Korea. We ate at one of the local college hang-outs, Firestone, which specializes in burgers, ribs etc. with reasonable prices which attracts the students. http://www.downtownslo.com/farmers.html

There are still many students around during the summer taking classes and working downtown. It seems that it takes 5 to 6 years for students to get through CalPoly due to many reasons including cost, available classes, work related situations. Many students go to Cuesta College, the local community college and then transfer to CalPoly. It seems to be very well respected and specializes in not just giving an education but preparing students for a career.http://www.calpoly.edu/
