Travel from the central coast can be a challenge. We do have a number of airports nearby but they are all regional ones served by those regional airlines we've all been hearing about. Also recently USAir and Delta pulled out of San Luis Obispo, so their is only United service from SLO and even that is really operated by Mesa Airlines.
One of my t'ai chi students tried to book an emergency flight out of the area to Spokane Washington. With the number of airlines pulling out of the area, the flights that are left are very full. There were no flights available for a couple of days. They drove the 21 hours to Spokane instead. Fortunately we have not had to try to get out of here in an emergency situation. All our travel out has been very smooth.
This lack of access will limit growth in the area. But then again, with the water shortages, I think there is limited growth possible anyway.
