Not for profit organizations

A while ago, I joined a group here called Womenade. It is an unincorporated not for profit group. Over time I have mentioned my concerns about liability to the founder of the organization. One of my new friends here is an attorney and a tax expert. He still practices law but also teaches tax courses at Cal Poly. I asked him if he would be willing to talk to the founder of Womenade about the pros and cons of incorporating and filing for tax exempt status. He and his wife met with the founder and me this afternoon. He recommended a website called: www.nolo.com. They publish a book called How to incorporate a non-profit in California. He was a great resource and the website looks terrific.
