Yesterday we took a trip to Montaña De Oro in Los Osos. It's one of the state's largest state parks and one the governor is talking about closing to come up with the money to balance the state budget. It is over 8,000 acres of rugged cliffs, secluded sandy beaches, coastal plains, streams, canyons, and hills, including 1,347-foot Valencia Peak. There are mountain biking and horse trails
, campgrounds and beaches. The park’s name, "Mountain of Gold," comes from the golden wildflowers that bloom in spring which is why we went there. We have been there in the winter and wanted to see the "oro" but we didn't see many golden wildflowers in bloom yet. There is supposed to be lots of wildlife in the park including black tailed deer and the black oystercatcher. We didn't see either of those but we did see these guys - these two horses had been on a great ride on one of the equestrian trails and had just taken a dust bath before I snapped the picture and were waiting to be brushed down.
