Today we took a ride to Guadalupe Beach and Dunes. They recently cordoned off a huge portion of the beach to protect the nesting plovers. They do a similar thing at Cape Cod. There is a point near Guadalupe Beach called Muscle Rock. We thought it would be fun to see what it looks like but it's about 4 miles down the beach from where we parked the car. We did not walk out there today. You can walk north and get back to the Oceano dunes about 10 miles up the road. Again, we did not do that today either. The waves were pretty fierce and there were signs up telling folks that it was not recommended to surf, swim or even walk in the water because of rip tides and high surf. They say it can be pretty nice in the summer. 
In the last picture you can see Montana de Oro on the middle of the picture which is north about 50 miles in Los Osos, where we spent the month of February 2006. There was an offshore wind most of the day so it got pretty warm into the 70s, but when we got to the beach the wind had shifted to an onshore one and it was getting cooler.
