On September 30, 1955 James Dean died in a fatal crash. The crash site is now a ranch field because the highway was realigned many years ago. The accident happened near the intersection of Route 46 and 41 in Chomale. There is this memorial marking the site now. We haven't been to the site but it's not far from Paso Robles. I think James Dean only made 3 major movies before he died at the age of 24. To this day many people make pilgrimages to the site even though it's not right along the highway anymore. I wonder which present day stars will create such a impassioned following so many decades after their death. Fascinating!
