Smoke, ash, haze

It has been a very dry spring in California. Yesterday there were over 800 strikes of dry lightning which started many, many fires all over California. Resources of all types are strapped already and it is just the beginning of what is typically known as the fire season. There are a couple of fires in Monterey county (the county just north of our county). The largest one is the "Indians" fire which has burned over 55,000 acres in the Los Padres forest. When the wind is coming from the north it sends the smoke and ash down to San Luis Obispo county. It has been very smoky and gray all day due to this phenomenon. The fire in the forest was started by an out of control campfire! We also have a "marine layer" over us which is typical for June. This helps to keep the humidity a little higher.
