One of these things is not like the other

This year the central coast has been overrun by coots. Usually they fly in for the winter and then most of them leave by spring. This year for some reason we have thousands of them and they do a terrible job on the golf courses. We are an Audobon bird sanctuary and there are very strict rules about maintaining the ecology and not messing with the birds! Many of the golf courses have had to resort to pretty drastic eradication methods, including shooting them. Here they have gotten creative with methods meant to be not harmful but making it more difficult for the birds to land in the water. They have herded the birds to specific areas and have been culling the flocks and moving them to other places. This flock of coots is near the 18th green - read annoyed golfers - and it has attracted a white duck that, I think, doesn't know it's not a coot. It pecks at the grass like the coots and travels with the flock. It's actually pretty amusing.
