T and I took a drive into the hills east of Arroyo Grande. There is an area called the Huasna area about 10 miles east of the village of Arroyo Grande. The land was granted to a rancher back in 1843 by the Mexican government. It is still very lush farm and ranch country. There is a mushroom farm plus many large horse ranches plus some goats and a collection of dinosaur and pig sculptures on one of the ranches. There is still a little red one-room school house that was built for the farmers' and ranchers' children. The road east travels through all the ranchland into the hills. There is no exit and you have to turn around and drive back the way you came. It is a popular ride for bikers as it is little traveled and very picturesque. A few years ago there was a proposal to drill for oil out there and the prospect of oil rigs and trucks driving through that area is still being fought vigorously.
