Cock fighting on the Mesa

OMG! Yesterday there were a bizillion law enforcement vehicles not far from us. There was a helicopter, numerous state police cars, highway patrol cars, sheriff cars and even an animal control vehicle. That should have been the tip off. Turns out there were over 300 people attending a cock fight just blocks from where we live. I used to walk in that area but one of my neighbors, a retired CHP chief, suggested I stop doing that, especially alone, as he had seen mountain lions in the area.

The Nipomo Mesa is a pretty mixed neighborhood. Over 20 years ago it was all walnut tree groves and eucalyptus tree groves with a few farms/ranches. Then they started building large estates and then planned communities like ours. This integrated type of neighborhood still has numerous ranches, farms and many flower and plant growers and apparently cock fighting. Here's a link to the story in this morning's paper. http://www.sanluisobispo.com/news/local/breaking_news/story/1011082.html
