On Long Term Care Coverage

T and I have been approved for Long Term Care coverage. Having reached that certain age where we still healthy and have sufficient assets to want to protect, I started looking into long term care. California, like Connecticut, and some other states have a partnership with some companies to provide LTC coverage. AARP also has many programs that it endorses and has an endorsement for LTC coverage. Interestingly both programs led me to the local Genworth Financial people.

The application process includes a LONG visit with an insurance agent. Haven't done that in many decades. We learned "all" about LTC policy and how they work. It took 3 hours to learn, complete a questionnaire and pay the binder fee. The application process is very much like applying for life insurance. I was called for a telephone interview complete with cognitive test - using 10 words in sentences twice and recalling the list later (no writing down). T didn't get a phone interview but they called for his medical records.

Now I onto finding an attorney and updating our wills.

You know you're getting old when....

I started looking into Long Term Care coverage. Many people I know bought it a long time ago when it first came out. I guess we didn't have so many assets we needed to protect at the time. We've reached that point where I think we need more asset protection than life insurance - at least that's my current way of looking at things. It appears that both the AARP and State of California Partnership for LTC feed us to the same insurance agency in Atascadero. I've done some research and have made an appointment to discuss options.
